Artist Branding Photography

This branding photography shoot really sparked my creativity and allowed me to create the perfect addition to Melissa’s artist branding as she begins her business full time! I found so much joy and a much needed creative spark in the process. Take a peek at some of her photos and read all about how they came to be!

Melissa Johnson’s Artist Headshots + Brand Photos

Melissa Johnson is a local artist here in Central Illinois. The story of our friendship began kind of… randomly.

I had been getting my wedding invitations printed at a print shop in East Peoria when a girl in the checkout line commented on how cute my invites were! We got to talking, and it turns out the girl in the checkout line was Melissa! We followed each other on Instagram and the rest is history!

I grew to really love Melissa’s art and she grew to be a big supporter of my businesses! Melissa even designed the trailer wrap for my second business, Lucy and Marie!

We quickly went from being strangers in a print shop to friends and each other’s biz supporters! It was only right that we take some artist headshots for her and create brand photos that really represent her and her brand!

Artist Branding Photoshoot

I can not say enough good things about Melissa’s branding photoshoot.

We focused on headshots and detail shots to really show the artist that Melissa is and the types of media that she uses. We kept all of the tones very neutral and earthy to really help her style to shine through!

My favorite part of this artistic branding photoshoot was all of the props that Melissa brought along with her. Melissa loves florals both inside and outside of her artwork. She loves picking wildflowers, gardening, and painting outside while wearing sun hats.

So she brought in things that helped to visualize that. She brought wildflowers, willow stems, art supplies, her artwork, color swatches, and all of those little things that allowed us to create these gorgeous photos. She even brought in one of her sun hats from Pyro Hat Co., which is a brand that we both met a local market.

I loved every minute of it. I found a lot of inspiration from the willow stems. They really sparked my creativity and really brought out my love for brand photos. The joy and creativity boost that my little heart got from that was so special, especially in my busier season when it can sometimes be difficult to find the joy and creativity from those little things. Much needed for me.

Painter Brand Photos

When taking brand photos, I like to add little details to make each session personal and unique. I had this really fun idea to use painter’s drop cloths as our backdrop instead of my usual seamless paper. I think it was such a fun touch that made so much sense for an artist branding photography shoot, especially since Melissa loves to paint! I loved how it kept the background neutral and the hint of texture that it added.

As one of Central Illinois’ brand photographers, I absolutely love seeing my clients use their brand photos all over their websites and the photos from content shoots on their social media! It has been wonderful to see Melissa’s brand grow as she adds all of her stunning new photos to her website, social media, and the rest of her online presence! Her entire business has seemed to come to life.
