Therapist Brand Photography
Cozy Brand Photography
This cozy brand photography session for Arin at Golden Hour Therapy was a refreshing challenge for me. Arin is a therapist with a private practice in West Peoria, Illinois. I had never worked with a therapist or mental health professional before. We connected really well on our pre-consultation call and were able to get a clear vision of what we were going for.
Creating feelings and really representing her service visually was difficult, but exciting at the same time! Arin came to me with her branding mood board and seeing the end result compared to her vision is AMAZING (check it out toward the bottom of the post!).
Something really special that I intentionally paid a lot of attention to was our lighting. With a name like Golden Hour Therapy, I wanted to play with light, and lucky for us the sun was out and shining for us that morning! It was so special. Not only is this intentional use of light a nod to her business name, but it helped us to capture that cozy, comforting, emotional, healing mood.
Therapist Brand Photos
I set up the studio with a neutral canvas backdrop and some pampas for a simple, clean colored background. We arranged this couch and bench to our needs and played around with props. While Arin brought some props with her, a lot of what you see is also from my prop collection at the studio. Including the candle and coffee mug! I have been working on building it up so that I will always have some textures and objects to play with if it feels right for the session. It really is the little things. People always forget cute pens! So I stocked up.
We got loads of detail shots with Arin’s therapy guided notebooks and journals, her phone, writing on a clipboard, and even some on her tablet screen to show a teletherapy session. It’s funny, we pulled up this photo of her sister and it looks like they are in a session but it’s actually just a photo. I loved getting creative coming up with ways to show what Arin does. I even pulled out my tripod and used the self timer on my camera to pose as her client for a few shots. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
We played with hand gestures for detail shots and showing Arin’s comforting kindness in her headshots. Arin brought some sparkling cider to toast with at the end of her session. It was SO on brand, especially when dealing with mental health issues where alcohol can sometimes be a sensitive topic. It was another way that we were able to personalize this session and make it unique to Arin and her business.

The more business owners and brands that I work with, the more I truly love being a brand photographer. Figuring out how to make each session unique and valuable to each business is my favorite challenge. Each session is a chance to flex my creative muscles and make another business shine.

Insta vs. Reality
Before our shoot, Arin had shared lots of inspiration with me. Including the mood board below. I am so PROUD of how her photos turned out, especially when comparing them to her vision. Just WAIT until you see it all come together in Karima’s mockups at the end!
What Comes Next?
At the time of our shoot, Arin was working on her brand as a whole, including her website! Arin worked with the same web designer that I did, Karima! Karima shared some mockups of her website with me and, oh man. They have me absolutely giddy over how her brand is coming together. I am SOOOO excited for Arin! Check out the mockups below!
Hey Photographer Friend!
I have had a long treacherous journey with posing. I had to learn the hard way how to guide my clients through their session to give them the quality photos I wanted to give them.
After years of trying, editing, and trying again, I have compiled my best tips and favorite poses into a set of guides—so no one else has to travel the same treacherous journey.
Grab your branding posing guide! Future you will thank you.
